Interview with Jennifer L. Armentrout author of Half-Blood

Today,is the day Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout hits the shelves and I just strongly recommend to everyone to pick up this book immediatelly!!!I was fortune enough to read it a couple of months before and I can't even begin to describe how much I loved it (you can read my review here)! It's one of those books, that from the very beggining, you just know you will end up loving! So,don't wait, pick up your own copy of Half-Blood and then tell me if I'm wrong!

Today as well,I have the honor of having Jennifer here at my place for a little interview!
So, without further delay, I want to give her a very warm welcome!

- What inspired you to write your book Half-Blood?
I started writing Half-Blood in 2008, and really wanted to involve one of my favorite things (Greek Mythology) with a kick butt heroine, which at that time, you didn't see a lot of in YA. But I wanted to do something different with the mythology instead of just a retelling of a myth, so that was how the half-blood and pure-bloods came into creation.

- I just have to ask it (since you know it was my favorite moment in your story), how did you decide to use a greek word of affection in such a crucial part of Half-Blood?
I love that "Agapi mou" is one of your favorite parts! It's mine, too. I wanted the words used, but not for them to be clear to Alex. And thank God for Google translation. And it really just seemed fitting for the character saying them.

- The Greek element in your story, what with the mythology and some greek words,is really strong in your book. How did you decide to set your story in that universe?
I've always been fascinated with Greek mythology and ancient Greek civilization and how it was so stratified into classes of people. There was never no doubt in my mind that I was going to write about the mythology in some way. Throughout the series, it does get heavier in terms of mythology. The society in Half-Blood is actually modeled after the ancient Greeks.

- I've noticed at least two more series of books ready to be published apart from Covenant. Is it difficult to simultaneously write in different universes?
I guess you are talking about Cursed and Obsidian? I don't write or edit two different series at a time, because the voice of the characters and the worlds are SO different. I have to keep them separate so they don't bleed together. Sometimes I do find Alex's voice creeping into Ember's or Katy's. Then I have to kick Alex back into the closet for awhile.

- Are there any authors that influenced your work?
Mainly, LJ Smith. I grew up reading and idolizing her. Other than that, not really. I have a ton of favorite authors, but nothing influential when I was writing the series, but now I have girl crushes on Jana Oliver, Rachel Vincent, Leigh Fallon and Jus Accardo.

- Is there a fictional character you really wished was real?
Oh wow, do I have to pick one? LOL. Todd from Soul Screamers. I want to see his eyes churn in real life. SWOON.

- When not writing, how do you like spending your free time?
What free time? I have a billion books coming out. Haha. Just kidding. I try to read. Maybe go outside the house. Work out. Pay attention to family.

- Which place in the world are you dying to visit?
GREECE!

Thank you so much Jennifer for stopping by!

Half-Blood is the first book in The Covenant series with 4 more books coming in the future! Here's the summary:

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure-bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:

Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

From Jennifer's website:

Jennifer lives in West Virginia. All the rumors you heard about her state aren’t true. Well, mostly.

When she’s not hard at work writing, she spends her time, reading, working out, watching zombie movies, and pretending to write. She shares her home with her husband, his K-9 partner named Diesel, her hyper Jack Russell Loki, and her pet turtle called Michelangelo. Her dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class, where she spent her time writing short stories. Therefore explains her dismal grades in math.

She writes Adult and Young Adult Urban Fantasy and Romance. Half-Blood, the first book in a planned series, is her debut novel and is available October 2011 .
