READING: Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2) by Rachel Hawkins

Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins

Publication Date: March 1st 2011
Publisher: Hyperion Books CH
Hardcover, 368 pages

Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.

That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.

Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.

But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Archer to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

If I enjoyed reading Hex Hall then the words I need to describe my feelings towards Demonglass are beyond mere enjoy!Demonglass was incredibly good!Once I started this book,I just couldn't stop until I had reached the last page!

Demonglass is as good as Hex Hall was and then some!Rachel Hawkins's sense of humor is amazing and evident throughout her whole book.Sophie's witty and sarcastic responses are hilarious most of the times and in general this book is written in such an easy going and fresh style that you don't even understand how the pages are flowing.
I really enjoyed the fact that the story moves from Hecate Hall in US to Thorne Abbey in England.I found it refreshing and interesting for the story to change the setting and I honestly think that the result was in advange for the plot.

Rachel Hawkins managed to create a great atmosphere in her book, modern and fresh and at the same time her setting had something of the atmosphere a historical book gives you. There's a feeling of another era in the atmosphere of Demonglass,it's like a modern language and a modern reality in general "collide" with that of a Victorian England.Granted, that is helped from the fact that the story unfolds in a really old mansion but still, the feeling is amazing.

The story is full of twists and turns, the reader gets to know things the whole time and you never lose your interest in the book, not even for a minute!I was totally hooked!
I love Sophie and the way she copes with a,most of the times, nasty reality. How she tries to rationalize her feelings and do the right thing and, I can't help myself but mention again, her sarcastic and witty responses.

The romance starts to become a bit more complicated in this sequel than it was in Hex Hall.We are better introduced to the alternative love interest that I may add is as swoon worthy as Archer is...It's one of those rare occasions that i find myself quite fond of both the love interests of the protagonist and to be honest I wouldn't mind Sophie ending with either of them.Usually it's just easy to pick a side.In Demonglass i find myself a bit uncertain.
Archer is........ well,Archer!I loved him in the first book I still love him now!All mysterious and strong but with well hidden sensitivities. What more could a girl ask for?

And one last thing...Why oh why should this book end at that point? Why?For the last about 50 pages I was unable to put the book down and I kind of felt disappointed with the ending but not because it was bad.On the contrary!I just needed some more...Not a major cliffhanger but a bit nasty one, enough to make me want to read the next book immediately! How far is 2012???

All in all,Demonglass was the perfect sequel of an incredible debut!I totally recommend this series to anyone that loves YA and fantasy books.I also want to thank Giota from Just Another Book Blog for lending me her copy of Demonglass and giving me the chance to read it earlier than it's publication date.
