Now that the threat of war has passed, Sabina Kane is ready to focus on the future. Her suspicions are confirmed when a string of sadistic murders threaten to stall treaty negotiations between the mages and the vampires. Sabina pitches in to find the killer, but her investigation soon leads her down dark paths that have her questioning everyone she thought she could trust. And the closer she gets to the killer, the more Sabina begins to suspect this is one foe she may not be able to kill.

Jaye Wells returns and with a novel that completely took my breath away!I know I've said it many times already, but Sabina Kane is one of my favorite UF series and book by book, Wells' stories get me addicted more and more!

Silver-Tongued Devil picks up immediately after the events of the previous book and Sabina finds herself in a relationship with Adam, adjusting to a new life yet again, but now willingly and trying to help her sister Maisie to recover from the atrocities she survived on their grandmother's hands.

One thing is evident throughout the whole book: Jaye Wells has grown and matured as a writer and that is best portrayed in her characters. Maybe Wells was always such a mature writer but her characters hadn't grown up in the previous books, but one thing is for sure, in STD almost all - if not all, at least all the major ones - characters undergo some drastic changes.

Sabina is the one who matures the most. She has to take some difficult decisions and in this book she's at last in peace with her mage abilities.

Adam on the other hand is playing a larger role in this novel. And I don't mean that he just appears in more scenes, but we get to learn more about him, and although there were a couple of things I wasn't thrilled about him, in overall he started to act in a way that made me remember the alpha male of the first book in the series that made me drool all over him :)

I won't say more about the changes some of the other characters went through cause that would be spoilerish and believe me, one of the best attributes of this novel - well, apart from the humor! - are the spins in the main plotline.

A must read for all the fans of this series!

Waiting on Wednesday: Blue - Blooded Vamp

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My selection for this week is:

Blue - Blooded Vamp by Jaye Wells
Publication Date:June 1st 2012
Publisher:Orbit

Summary from Goodreads:
The epic conclusion to the amazing Sabina Kane urban fantasy series.

Sabina Kane is on the hunt. Her prey: Cain, the father of the vampire race and the one who murdered her family and her friends. Unfortunately, Cain is hunting Sabina, too.

The one man who holds the key to defeating Cain is, of course, Abel. A mage with secrets to spare and, hopefully, the power to match it. Unfortunately, for Sabina, he's in Rome and may not want to be found.

Sabina sets out for Italy with her friends, Giguhl and Adam Lazarus, to track down the only man who can get her the revenge she hungers for. But will he help her or oppose her? And just who is Abel, really? Worst of all, when Sabina figures out the goddess Lilith has a plan for her-she realizes this trip is getting deadlier by the minute. As they say: when in Rome-SURVIVE.

What I think:
Sabina Kane is one of my favorite UF series currently so naturally the conclusion to the story is a must for me! Especially considering the great work Wells did on the previous book of the series. It just left me wanting more and more!

REVIEW: Green Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells

Green Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells

Series: Sabina Kane, #3
Publication Date: March 1st 2011
Publisher: Orbit
Paperback, 376 pages
Book & Purchase Info: Author's Website, Goodreads, Book Depository

Things to do:

1. Rescue sister.
2. Murder grandmother.
3. Don't upset the voodoo priestess.

The clock is ticking for Sabina Kane. Her sister has been kidnapped by her grandmother, the Dark Races are on the brink of war, and a mysterious order is manipulating everyone behind the scenes.

Working on information provided by an unlikely ally, Sabina and her trusty sidekicks--a sexy mage named Adam Lazarus and Giguhl, a Mischief demon--head to New Orleans to begin the hunt for her sister. Once there, they must contend with belligerent werewolves, magic-wielding vampires and--perhaps most frightening of all--humans.

But as much as Sabina is focused on surviving the present, the past won't be ignored. Before she can save those she cares about most, she must save herself from the ghosts of her past.

Jaye Wells doesn't disappoint once more with the third instalment in her Sabina Kane series. Honestly, this series is among my favorite UF series and book by book it just gets better. The first book in the series remains my favorite so far, but still, Wells' writing style is so good and addictive that I can't possibly put her books down as soon as I start reading them.

Green Eyed Demon, continues right after the events that unfolded in the previous book and Sabina along with Giguhl and Adam travel to New Orleans following Maisie who was kidnapped by her grandmother.
The only thing that I didn't like in this book, was the fact that the first half was a bit slow, especially actionwise, when compared to the rest books in the series. But after a certain point, when things finally picked up, there was no way I could put the book down.

Again, the best characteristics of this book is the unique and intricate world building and the humorous tone of Wells' writing style. Giguhl is once more my favorite character and the addition of a couple more characters just made things even better.
Among those new characters is Brooks, and I just have to say that I truly admire Wells, not only for her guts to create such a complex and "difficult" character as Brooks but also for the way she portrayed him. Wells isn't taking the easy road and that is evident not only with her choice of characters but with the way she develops her main heroine as well. Sabina in Green Eyed Demon is so much different than the assassin we met in the first book, she has grown and changed through all the things that happened to her and changer her life and perception of things.

All in all, Green Eyed Demon is a must read for the fans of the series and in general the Sabina Kane series is among my favorite UF series right now.

REVIEW: The Mage in Black (Sabina Kane,#2) byJaye Wells

The Mage in Black by Jaye Wells

Publication Date:April 1st 2010
Publisher:Orbit
Mass Market Paperback, 326 pages

Sabina Kane doesn't have the best track record when it comes to family. After all, her own grandmother, the leader of the vampire race, just tried to kill her. When she arrives in New York to meet the mage side of her family, the reunion takes the fun out of dysfunctional.

On top of that, the Hekate Council wants to use her as a pawn in the brewing war against the vampires. Her mission will take her into the bowels of New York's Black Light district, entangles her in mage politics, and challenges her beliefs about the race she was raised to distrust. And Sabina thought vampires were bloodthirsty.

The Mage in Black, begins immediately after the events that took place in the end of Red-Headed Stepchild and Sabina finds herself travelling with Adam to New York to meet her twin sister. In New York, along with embracing her mage side, Sabina finds herself copying with all sorts of new problems, from adjusting to a whole set of new rules, to figure out where she stands in the upcoming war of the dark races.

I really enjoyed The Mage in Black, I literally couldn't put it down, and although in some departments it was better than Red Headed Stepchild, I'm afraid I didn't like it as much as the first book and for that, I have to blame on one hand the fact that Adam was for the better part of this novel away and on the other the fact that the action scenes were less. But that, doesn't mean I didn't like this book. I seriously loved it and I can't wait to pick the next book in the series!

Once more, among my favorite parts of the book, where those featuring Gigughl! What can I say? He's probably the funniest demon I have ever read! Scratch that. He's probably the funniest character I have even read! And the fact that in this book his role is more extended made me love him even more. Him and Jaye Wells for creating him in the first place! And it's not weird that in all of the most memorable scenes of this book he's participating!

I liked the further world building and the character development. I even liked the politics of the dark races even though I'm not usually a big fan of politics in my books. but I terribly missed Adam... But since he's bound to have a more active role in the next book, I can forgive him everything!

All in all, even though I didn't enjoy The Mage in Black as much as the first book in the series, I can certainly say that this series is one of the most entertaining UF series I have picked in a long time.

REVIEW: Red Headed Stepchild (Sabina Kane, #1) by Jaye Wells

Red Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells

Publication Date: April 1st 2009

Mass Market Paperback, 325 pages

In a world where being of mixed-blood is a major liability, Sabina Kane has the only profession fit for an outcast: assassin. But, her latest mission threatens the fragile peace between the vampire and mage races and Sabina must scramble to figure out which side she's on. She's never brought her work home with her---until now.

This time, it's personal.

I just loved, loved, loved The Red Headed Stepchild! Honestly, it was among the best urban fantasy books I picked in time and I just don't know what I have been waiting for and haven't picked this series up sooner!

I just loved everything about this book! From the kick ass and smart heroine to the incredibly amusing demon-cat! The Red Headed Stepchild has just every single thing I want in a book. Fun and well developed characters, action packed scenes, humour and a romance that slowly builds up and promises to become that much better in the books to come.

I just love books about assassins and this one is no exception! Sabina is one amazing character, strong, independent and loyal even if that loyalty hearts her. Adam is plainly swoon-worthy and the romance between them is in exactly the right pace I want in my books. They don't fall head over heels for each other from the start of the story which in my book is always a good thing. It allows things to progress more slowly and that much better!

The world building is somewhat new, Wells adds some new elements in the already much used vampire mythos and I really liked those twists. The action scenes are well planned and even better delivered  and I just loved how Sabina progresses as a character throughout the novel, from a total loner to a person who slowly starts opening up to the people or demon! surrounding her.

All in all, from the very first chapters of The Red Headed Stepchild, I just knew that I had in my hands a fabulous book, and by the end of it I just had found my next favourite series! The rest books of the series are already pre ordered and on their way home! A winner!
