READING: The Body Finder (The Body Finder #1) by Kimberly Derting

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting

Published: March 16th 2010
Publisher:HarperCollins
Paperback, 352 pages

Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes the dead leave behind in the world . . . and the imprints that attach to their killers.

Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find dead birds her cat left for her. But now that a serial killer is terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, Violet realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.

Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet find the murderer and Violet is unnerved by her hope that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer . . . and becoming his prey herself.

I can't even begin to describe how much i loved The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting!Once i started reading there was no stopping... I loved that creepy world and those amazing characters immediatelly!

At first,i was drawn to this book from the incredible romance between Violet and Jay.The way Derting describes the transformation of a long lived friendship to something more was just uncomparable. She managed to catch all the emotions and thoughts of a teenage girl who feels drawn to her best friend and all those feelings scare her.The romantic element is just amazing and very well described. But as the story progresses there are more toThe Body Finder than just a good romance plot.Violet's ability to sense the dead, may not be something unique in the paranormal literature but is the first book i read with such an ability. And i really liked the way Derting described the colours and odours and sounds and in general everything that consist a kind of identity for the victim and the killer.

Violet and Jay are just a very good couple for this book.I loved Violet's course of thinking towards things, her sense of responsibility and her stubborness.Jay on the other hand was really caring, and smart and i loved his sense of humor. All the other secondary characters were other more and other less developed but with a nice balance for the story's sake. And i also have to mention that among my favorite parts were the killer's point of view.Seeing what the hunting was for him gave him a whole identity despite the fact that the only things we know about him are just those thoughts...

But although i really liked The Body Finder i can't just ignore a fact that actually prevent me from thinking of it as a mind blowing debut novel to a just really good one.And that's the part where the killer is revealled.Although i didn't actually expect something more about his identity (won't say anything more for fear of spoilers) i did expect much more about the way he was revealed.I found it a bit anticlimatic to say the least...Anyway,i already have loved this book,so that fact didn't really spoil the book for me.

All in all,The Body Finder is an amazing novel that i totally recommend to everyone who loves YA.I just can't wait for the sequel to be published!
