For centuries Mira has been a nightwalker—an unstoppable enforcer for a mysterious organization that manipulates earth-shaking events from the darkest shadows. But elemental mastery over fire sets her apart from others of her night-prowling breed . . . and may be all that prevents her doom.

The foe she now faces is human: the vampire hunter called Danaus, who has already destroyed so many undead. For Mira, the time has come to hunt . . . or be hunted.

I was debating for quite some time whether to read this book or not. What with my unsuccesful picking among urban fantasy titles lately,i was afraid this book might be turn out to be a dissapointment.Having read it now, there's only one thing i can say: i couldn't be more wrong in my assumptions and i shouldn't wait so long to read it!

Nightwalker,is the first novel in what seems to be a really exciting series. It had everything i'm looking for in an urban fantasy series, non stop action and a really subtle romance, that promises to grow as the story progress.
The fact that the protagonist was a 600 year old female vampire that kicks ass was a fresh turn among all those titles where the vampire who kicks ass is usually male!In Nightwalker, both the male and female protagonist are quite strong and they take turns protecting each other. At last,Drake presents a leading couple where both of them stand on their own feet, they are independent and their survive is not a matter of the strong one looking after the weakest one,but more a matter of trusting each other and managing to cooperate.I haven't encountered such a leading couple since Jeanniene Frost's Night Huntress series.

The plot is quick paced and battles are constantly succeeding one another, never letting you put down this book.In the plus side of this book is the fact that Drake tries to create a new world of vampires, weres and other mythical creatures, which may not be something completely new,but the relations between all those creatures is definitely something i haven't encountered in a book yet.

The romantic element as i said,is quite subtle or even non existent in this novel, but the attraction between Mira and Danaus is evident and promises to unravel into something exciting over the next books in the series.

All in all,Nightwalker was an amazing start of a series that i will most definitely keep on reading.I love urban fantasy titles and this one is worth the timing reading it!
